Jon Moxley is All Elite for what might very well be for the rest of his career. News broke last week that the current AEW World Champion has signed a five-year extension with AEW, which is set to expand his role to coaching and mentoring positions and also make him exclusively the only promoter of Tony Kahn. Mox will still be able to work with AEW’s international partners, such as New Japan Pro Wrestling, but this appears to be done through independent bookings such as Game Changer Wrestling. This was particularly cemented last weekend, when Moxley dropped the GCW World Championship to Nick Gage at GCW Fight Club.
While Moxley’s recent enthusiastic promotions in AEW made many believe he would always be for the life of the company, the former WWE Champion originally had different plans. according to Wrestling NewsletterMoxley had intended to wrestle for AEW for the duration of his initial three-year contract and then dare to do “whatever he wanted”. It was said that this was specifically with the independent circuit and also AEW, as Mox expected to maintain an independent relationship with the company. The report didn’t say anything about Moxley potentially wanting to return to WWE.
“I don’t plan to go anywhere else,” Moxley said in a recent interview. Sports Illustrated. “It’s the best job in the world, and I’m so lucky to have it. In AEW, all I worry about is wrestling. That’s my focus, and that’s a joy. I love telling stories, I love posters, I love wrestling. I love coming up with ideas for other people, I love learning. For me, This fits perfectly.”
It was also noted that Mox’s original contract would expire around May AEW double or nothingBut it was extended until mid-July due to his absence from the company in late 2021.
“A year ago, I wasn’t in the same mental space,” Moxley said, referring to his struggles with alcoholism. “I was so awake. I hated traveling. I lived in Vegas, and felt like I was always in an airport, flying from coast to coast, and I was sick of leaving my family. I thought about working a piece when the deal was over, not because I was leaving AEW, but I didn’t want to be in There every week, I was in a bad place.
“Then I went to rehab and all that, and now I’m in a completely different place. We live in Cincinnati too, which is great. I look forward to going on TV every week.
